Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how TuxReader handles your files, app data and privacy.

Privacy-first by design
TuxReader processes and stores supported documents locally on your device. TuxReader does not require an account and does not automatically upload your documents or personal information to CrabsCode Inc. Documents or document text may leave the device only when you explicitly choose to share a document with another app or when certain device services, such as text-to-speech or device migration, are used.
1. About this policy
This policy applies to the TuxReader Android application developed and published by CrabsCode Inc. TuxReader is a document reader intended to open supported local documents, including PDF, EPUB, CBZ, TXT and HTML.
This policy applies specifically to the TuxReader app. The CrabsCode website is covered by the separate CrabsCode website privacy policy.
2. Information TuxReader accesses
Documents you choose to open
When you select a PDF, EPUB, CBZ, TXT, HTML or other supported local document, TuxReader accesses that file only as needed to display and manage it inside the app. Your documents are not automatically uploaded to CrabsCode Inc. servers.
Local app data
TuxReader may store reading position, preferences, library references, bookmarks, annotations, notes, small excerpts associated with annotations, document metadata and similar reading-related information locally on your device. TuxReader may also use temporary app cache for extracted EPUB or CBZ content, conversion data, and other temporary files needed to display or convert supported documents. This locally stored app data is not automatically sent to CrabsCode Inc.
As of the effective date of this policy, TuxReader does not declare Android runtime permissions.
3. Personal data collection
As of the effective date of this policy, TuxReader does not collect personal information through the app for CrabsCode Inc. This includes names, email addresses, phone numbers, precise location, contacts, financial information, authentication credentials, advertising identifiers or the content of documents you open.
TuxReader does not require you to create a CrabsCode account to read documents.
4. Analytics, advertising and tracking
As of the effective date, TuxReader does not use analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, Firebase, telemetry services or remote crash-reporting services, and it does not transmit app usage data to a CrabsCode Inc. backend. CrabsCode Inc. does not sell personal information obtained through TuxReader.
TuxReader may be distributed through third-party app stores such as Google Play. Those platforms may process technical or account information independently under their own terms and privacy policies. Such platform-level processing is not controlled by TuxReader.
5. Data sharing
TuxReader does not automatically transmit your documents or personal information to CrabsCode Inc. As a result, CrabsCode Inc. does not share that app data with advertisers, data brokers or other third parties.
User-initiated sharing
TuxReader may allow you to share a selected document using Android's share system. A document may leave your device only when you intentionally choose to share it with a receiving app. Once shared, the receiving app or service may process, store or transmit the document according to its own privacy practices. Those practices are governed by the receiving app or provider and are not controlled by CrabsCode Inc.
Read Aloud and Text-to-Speech
When you use Read Aloud or another Text-to-Speech feature, TuxReader may pass document text to the Android Text-to-Speech (TTS) service selected on your device. TuxReader is designed to use offline or non-network voices where possible, but the behavior of system or third-party TTS engines and voices may vary and some may use network processing. CrabsCode Inc. does not receive the document text sent to your selected TTS service.
6. Data security
TuxReader is designed to minimize data exposure by processing supported documents locally on your device. Access to files and locally stored app data is also subject to the security protections provided by Android and your device.
No method of electronic storage is completely risk-free, so we recommend keeping your device and operating system updated and using the security features available on your device.
7. Data retention and deletion
CrabsCode Inc. does not retain copies of documents you open in TuxReader because those documents are not automatically transmitted to us. App preferences, reading-related information and temporary cache data stored locally remain on your device until they are removed through TuxReader, cleared through Android settings, removed by the operating system, or removed when the app is uninstalled, depending on the type of local data and your device settings.
Files you open with TuxReader remain under your control in the storage location where you keep them. Clearing TuxReader app data or uninstalling the app does not necessarily delete your original document files.
TuxReader disables Android cloud backup. However, Android or some device manufacturers may still provide direct device-to-device migration features that can transfer app data between devices. Any such transfer is performed by the operating system or device migration service and is not collection by CrabsCode Inc.
8. Children's privacy
TuxReader does not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app. Because the app does not require an account and is designed for local document reading, CrabsCode Inc. does not use TuxReader to create profiles of children or serve targeted advertising to them.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when TuxReader's features, data practices or legal obligations change. When we make changes, we will publish the revised policy at this URL and update the effective date shown above.
